R S Arthur Engineering was established in 1985 by Richard Arthur and is based in Begbroke in the south east of England, in close proximity to Begbroke Science Park and the city of Oxford, a leading science and technology hub.

Richard worked as an instrument maker in both the Department of Inorganic Chemistry and the Department of Physical Chemistry at the University of Oxford for 17 years. Whilst working there Richard gained extensive experience in designing and manufacturing a wide range of scientific equipment and obtained an HNC in Mechanical Engineering at Oxford Polytechnic .

Since then, Richard worked with Forbes Perry in a long-standing collaborative project at Perbury Engineering Ltd. and continues the development of infinitely variable transmissions (IVT/CVT).

Richard has had a long-standing association with Begbroke Science Park (formerly Cookson Technology Centre) through his involvement in projects exploring emerging technologies including with Oxford Gene Technology, Opsys and Oxamer. His most recent collaboration has been with Animal Dynamics Ltd, who design efficient systems inspired by evolutionary biomechanics.
